LIBERTY PICK 4 PTS IN HOME AND AWAY ENCOUNTER WITH DWARFS

The Panasonic Lads, Liberty Professionals secured an enviable 4 points from the maximum 6 in the enticing home and away encounter with Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs F/C after beating the Abontua Abontua boys 3-2 in the first match of the reversed GT Premier League on Wednesday.

After picking a point away on Sunday against the same opposition in the last matches of the 1st round at Cape Coast, the visitors had anticipated a good game in the return.

Beaming with confidence after chalking their most cherished victory at the same venue in the first away game over Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club at the beginning of the league, Ebusua Dwarfs were the first to send warning signals in Wednesday’s game coming close twice but failing to punish Liberty for some early lousy defending.

However, when the Panasonic lads settled after about 25 minutes, it was clear they were ahead of their opponents, but also failed to convert their superiority into goals as they wasted all the opportunities that came their way.

The two teams resumed the 2nd half on a quiet note but within 6 minutes, Liberty had changed the tempo when young Kofi Nti Boakye sneaked through the Dwarfs defence to snatch the leader in a bizarre ball watching drama in the visitors area.

Captain Mustapha Essuman made it 2 after five minutes to set the tone for a demolition. A surprised penalty awarded Dwarfs changed the course of the game when it was neatly converted. The score now 2-1, Dwarfs piled pressure on Liberty but rather got punished by their over indulgence in the hunt for an equalizer when substitute Amewou Komla run deep into the area to set up Michael Helegbe to make it 3-1.

Dwarfs would not throw in the towel and clawed one back from an own goal when defender James Dissiramah mistakenly beat his keeper Kotei Blankson from a clearance in added time.

The victory ensured Liberty’s 4 points from 6 and a step up to 5th position in the league table.
