Chelsea beat Everton in the FA Cup final at Wembley to become five time winners together with full back Ashley Cole.
After falling behind inside half a minute, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard scored in each half to seal the
club's first silverware in two years and bid Guus Hiddink a gracious farewell.
There were no surprises except for Michael Ballack who dropped to the bench and his place taken by Nigerian John Mikel Obi and Brazillian Alex who came in for Branislav Ivanovic.
Everton kicked off and promptly scored the FA Cup Final's fastest ever
goal as Louis Saha lashed home Fellaini's headed knock down inside 25 seconds, breaking Roberto Di Matteo's record from 1997.
Chelsea's defending was poor but that
goal should never have stood. Steven Pienaar was a yard offside before he crossed into the danger area that was not well dealt with by Mikel Obi and finally the
goal.
It was 13 minutes before Chelsea registered a shot, Didier Drogba's persistence partially paying off as he laid back to Michael Essien, but the Ghanaian's left-footed shot flew high and wide.
7 minutes later the equaliser arrived and it was the man for big occasions Didier Drogba. Florent Malouda who has flourished under Guus Hiddink was the provider after a neat one-two between Frank Lampard and Nicolas Anelka.
Drogba slipped in between Everton’s central boys Joseph Yobo and Joleon Lescott and headed hard into the corner, it was the Ivorian's fourth
goal in as many Wembley visits.
The remaining minutes before the end of the half were quiet except for Frank Lampard’s shot that flew over and Ashley Cole’s opportunity that he blew away.
The second half began in scrappy fashion, neither side keeping the ball well, and Neville entering the book for a scissors-styled lunge on Mikel.
Malouda volleyed high and Saha blazed wide as the game took on a more even complexion in the opening quarter-hour of the second half.
Just before the clock ticked over onto 60 minutes, Anelka had a half-chance, lifting the ball up and over Howard but it was slightly too high.
Then came Hiddink's first action, replacing Essien, ineffective by his own high standards, with Ballack in
midfield.
From a free-kick, Everton worked the ball wide to Leighton Baines, whose whipped cross picked out Saha in a similar
position to where Drogba had scored fortunately he headed up and over when he should have tested Cech.
At the other end Malouda skipped past Jacobsen and crossed hard to the near post, where Drogba inadvertently directed the ball past the near post with his chest.
By now we were into the final 20 minutes and still no nearer to finding a winner.
Enter Frank Lampard.
For one normally so central to Chelsea's attacking play, the
midfielder had had a very quiet game as he went in search of his 20th
goal of the
season, and his 100th in five.
When the chance came, on his left foot 25 yards from
goal, there was only one outcome. He turned Neville, and after regaining his composure fired hard past Howard, the ball's sheer pace taking it beyond the American's grasp.
There was even time for Anelka to squander another lob, after being prompted by Lampard in injury time.
Nonetheless, Chelsea claimed their fifth FA Cup, and amazingly, so did Ashley Cole, becoming the first man to do so since the 1800s.
Celebrations for fans and
players will go on long into the night as a long and difficult
season ends with a sweet victory, and a fifth Final success from nine attempts.

Essien got the needed support to be where he is now from Alhaji. But recently, alhaji has relaxed and does not care about the players who featured well last season but rather take them out of liberty. none of the good players got a trial outside, not even in africa. this spirit of trials outside is what made liberty the scientific soccer lads and some of us found interest in.this is due to the fact that players played their heart out in order to catch alhaji's eyes. Now someone should tell me why liberty must not go to religation when there is no inspiration and motivation. how many players has alhaji sold out in recent times? now, even hearts of lion can afford to send players out for trial.
Alhaji be quick to act before you regret playing in this elite division with this change of mind..
