Dansoman based
Liberty Professionals sunday made light work of Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra.
Goals from Kevin Kouadio, Lukeman Bright and Francis Morton drowned the Kumasi side to their first defeat of the
season.
The Kotoko consolation was scored by Francis Coffie mid way the second half.
Liberty Professionals handed Asante Kotoko their first defeat of the
season by beating them 3-1 on Sunday during their week five Glo
Premier League clash at the Ohene Djan Stadium.
The Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra becoming a slippery ground for the fabulous boys in games against the Dansoman boys.
The
season past Kotoko were cruising to a 2-0
win when Latif Salifu struck twice to even the
scores before Kamal Issah added on only for Kojo Poku to nick a
draw in injury time.
The game was scrappy for the first 20 minutes as both teams resorted to breaking from the
midfield.
Liberty’s
young of Ghandi Kassenu, Kamal Issah, Christopher Nkansah and Francis Morton were proving very difficult to overcome while the Kotoko
midfield led by former St Mirren captain Frank Boateng and Daniel Nii Adjei lacked vision and drive.
By the half hour, the colour pattern of the game has just gone one up and Kotoko were beginning to dominate and threaten only for Kevin Koaudio to break their confidence. Kevin was second time lucky heading in Christopher Nkansah’s corner to break the deadlock on 37th minutes.
Goalkeeper Nii Baah was completely beaten and had very little cover too from his men who manned the post, Prince Boateng and Osei Kwame Jnr.
A disappointing performance by their own standards, Asante Kotoko came back into the game after the break taking with them messages from their angry fans who booed and jeered and also pelted them with sachet water on their return to the dressing room and also the substitutes of Jordan Opoku and Samad Oppong who came on for Daniel Nii Adjei and Kabiru Imoro.
Both had struggled to make an impression and coach Paa Kwesi Fabin quickly rung the changes.
But the joy of the renaissance was short lived as
Liberty shut out their attack of Edward Afum and substitutes Jordan Opoku and Samad Oppong and bossed the
midfield with ease.
Ivorian import Kevin Kouadio wasted another glorious opportunity maybe in all fairness due to the pressure from Kotoko centre back George Asare who did not make the
striker have space and time to shoot after he rounded hi up the first time. It was a ball threaded through to into his path by Christopher Nkansah who had drifted into the
midfield to help mop up after Francis Morton had lost the ball.
Liberty midfielder Kamal Issah again missed chance of the afternoon, one that would have put the Kotoko under more pressure. Kamal with
goalkeeper Eric Nii Baah well beaten and a yawning net beckoning shot feebly and looked to run to celebrate only for the chasing Kotoko central
defender Mutalabi Mohamed to clear.
But for Eric Nii Baah and Kotoko that would have been a better
goal to concede.
A minute later Lukeman Bright’s seemingly harmless drive from the edge from the box went through the grip of the
goalkeeper and through his legs for
Liberty's second. It was lead well deserved by the home side but one that would gravely haunt the Kotoko
goal tender considering the pressure it brought to the team and.
But that lead was not to last. Less than three minutes had elapsed before Asante Kotoko got back into the game from a winger Francis Coffie’s brilliant shot into the roof of the net from a well weighted ball in sneaking in behind Atta Kusi.
Kotoko were not prepared to take defeat lying down and buoyed by Coffie’s strike and substitute Jordan Opoku’s industry, the Oseikrom lads came pouring forward hoping to keep the pressure and at least find the equalizer.
But
Liberty it was that profited from the pressure and incessant attacks as Francis Morton's shot on 85 minutes deflected off central
defender Mutalabi Mohammed for
Liberty’s third
goal and put the game beyond the reach for the Kumasi side.
It was a victory well deserved for the scientific
soccer lads and for the former
league champions some more introspection to do.
